Claude Duet
Claude Duet is Anthropic’s proactive assistant built around Claude Opus 5.5. The October 21, 2026 research preview starts with US Pro and Max subscribers through a waitlist, on iOS, Android and claude.ai. It has its own cloud computer and uses the same plan limits as Claude; it is a product, not a new selectable API model.

Anthropic’s cloud assistant checks connected work, prepares tasks and asks for consequential-action approval, within a US Pro/Max waitlist preview.
What Duet does between conversations
Duet carries over Claude memory, skills and connected apps. It prepares a morning brief, checks connected accounts every few hours and continues assigned work in a cloud virtual machine while your phone or laptop is off. Background checks and larger tasks consume the shared plan allowance.
Start with a small work task
After an invitation, connect only the app needed for a bounded task: identify an unpaid invoice, prepare a meeting brief or draft a follow-up. Review the cited email, file or spreadsheet and approve the exact recipient and content before sending. A publisher example does not establish that every connector or outcome is available or reliable for your account.

Actions and credentials have separate boundaries
Anthropic says Duet waits for approval before messages, payments, signatures or deletion, and prohibits some actions even with approval, including securities trades and transfers between accounts. It describes separate credential/browser infrastructure so passwords, cookies and sign-in tokens do not pass through the model. Sensitive-data classifiers and approval controls are defenses, not proof that prompt injection or data leaks are impossible.
Preview limits and the comparison with Dots
The initial audience is professionals and small-business owners using individual US Pro or Max plans; joining the waitlist is not access. Duet cannot yet show you its browser, can misjudge urgency and is weaker at personal errands. It uses shared Claude limits; OpenAI Dots has a different rollout and allowance contract. Choose based on the connected task, approvals and total usage rather than the product demo alone.

Useful first jobs
- Meeting and inbox briefs from permitted connected sources.
- Drafting administrative work for review.
- Background work with explicit approval for consequential actions.
Frequently asked questions
Does a Pro or Max subscription guarantee Duet access?
No. The initial US research preview uses a waitlist. Plan eligibility and an invitation are separate gates, and background work uses the same Claude plan limits.
Is Claude Duet a new model I can call through an API?
No. Duet is a proactive product built around Claude Opus 5.5, with connected apps, a cloud computer and product-level controls. The announcement does not provide a separate Duet inference model ID.
